Linux provides fine-grained control over desktop windowing software, enabling Linux-based kiosks to be locked down in several ways. For instance,

• The KDE desktop environment provides a kiosk framework which can be used to limit function availability, so that users cannot change settings, and are limited to running only certain programs.
• The Mozilla web browser can be customized to display only certain web pages, and to present only limited options to the user
• We have access to the source code of all open source programs, including the web browser and desktop environment, and can disable specific functionality by recompiling. This option is typically not available for commercial programs.
